Pre-liminary Task: Planning Pictures

After deciding on the set up of my cover, I drew the desired product on paper. From there I knew what pictures I wanted and how and where I wanted them taken.

This was the final design I wanted

I took ten photos. I took this many so I could be sure on what I wanted and how I wanted the subjects to look and where to position them. I took many pictures, some of them I took from further away so that I could crop them down.

This was the test shot for when I was deciding where to shoot my pictures. I choose here due to the clean look of the school. However, I took my pictures slightly angled away from the building due to lighting complications on the day I took my pictures.
From there, I took my pictures. Having got consent to take the pictures from all subjects within the images.
This would be nice, but the subjects are too spaced out, and the pictures is too wide.

This wouldn't be suitable as Allan is in too much shadow.

There is too much shadow again, and the picture is too bleak.

Again, not suitable due to Allan blinking.

This could be an option, it would be easy to crop down but the text would be a hard to place.

The subjects are too close and the picture is too wide.

Harry is standing too far away from the other two subjects, so this wouldn't be suitable.

This would be an option if Allan wasn't making a face.

There is too much shadow for this to be an option.

This is the picture that I have chosen over the others. The lighting is nice, the image will be easy to crop and manipulate and the subjects are all close together and hold the right look for the image I wanted to convey.

After choosing the picture I want to use, I now have to go on to making my front cover.

Pre-Liminary Task: Consent Forms

To take the pictures I wanted to take for my front cover. I had to get a consent form from the people I was going to photograph.

This was the form that all three subjects signed so as to prove that they were allowing themselves to be pictured for my task.

Pre-limenary Task: Planning

Planning my pre-limanry task includes researching other school magazines to get ideas and to apply the conventions from the chosen magazine to base my own on as a style model.

This image is the one I have chosen to base my magazine front cover off. The focus is on three subjects, however, my subjects will be a little further away to get a view of the uniforms of the subjects while also getting a view of the background to show that the school and it's pupils are neat and respectable. I will also try and include the rul of thirds within my pictures to get the best possible image.

Pre-liminary Task: Planning Pictures Test

During our media lesson last week, to begin work on our pre-liminary task, we took pictures of each other around the school to get an image for the front cover of a school magazine. We only had a basic understanding of how to take pictures going into the task, and a limited amount of time and props to complete it.

During the work, we went around the school, using locations such as hallways or signs outside to set the scene, giving it away in the pictures that it was in a school if the subjects in the focus of the picture weren't enough to give that away. We didn't have access to any props, but we used each other as a starting point as we were all dressed smartly and appropriately.

Some examples of pictures I took are shown below.

The pictures I took were not suitable for a school magazine for various reasons. I did not follow the rule of thirds and most of my pictures had the subjects too far apart to be suitable for a magazine from cover. The lighting was never suitable, however some of the backgrounds could be given the right angle. Overall, all of the pictures were unsuitable but now, I have the ability to take better pictures to use.
